The first thing to note is 3 people were saved which is brilliant!
It's not too often you get to see the fruit of such a team so
quickly but we praise God that He decided to save these 3 fellas
while we were out there.
The
trip was just fantastic from start to finish! We landed in the
Gambia and were taken by mini bus down to Senegal. We stayed in
a mission center in the middle of Zig, and were excellently looked
after by a missionary couple called Iain and Lynda Williamson.
Each
morning started off the same with a wake up call from the local
mosque at 5am! Not the first thing you want to hear in the morning
but it was a welcome challenge. The Muslim's are so committed
and disciplined and it made you realise how much more time and
effort we should be putting into our
relationship with God! If these people can get up at 5am to pray
to a false God then surely we can make that effort to get up early
(maybe not 5am) to pray to the one true living God!
We
had our team devotions each morning which were brilliant. It was
a time were everyone was very honest and different people shared
what was on their hearts. The Lord blessed us a lot through these
times.
After
this it was off to coaching clinics in different areas. We coached
around 50-100 kids each day which was hard in the heat which would
reach 40 degrees! After the coaching we would do role plays and
tell the children about Jesus and what he's done for each of us.
The kids listened well and the seed was sown.
It
was then back to the mission for lunch which would consist of
rice and different surprises! Everyone got stuck in though and
left the table very full! After lunch it was siesta time which
was welcomed in the heat!
Around
4 we would then have a prayer time before heading to the matches.
We played 6 matches winning 2 and losing 4. The football was an
experience! With one pitch having a tree and well as obstacles,
as if the African's weren't good enough alone! At half time in
the matches one of the fellas
would give his testimony and would have as many as 800 listening!
The
evenings differed, after tea we would spend time with the local
churches or with the teams we'd played. As well as getting to
know some of the locals over African tea or milk!! Good stuff.
That's
in short a tipical day. The trip was amazing and hopefully we'll
be able to share more with the church soon.
